Abstract
In the technological era, the internet has become a component of individual needs. From the statistical calculation data, internet users have experienced rapid growth. Internet consumption certainly has an impact on the lives of individuals in the future, both positive and negative impacts. Although from the beginning, the internet has offered users various conveniences such as speeding up individual work, media literacy, but it will be worrying if not used wisely. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Reality group counseling in reducing the level of problematic internet usage among students. The research method used is quantitative research methods. This type of research is an experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design with a repeated measurement model. The results of this study indicate that the reality group counseling can reduce the level of problematic internet use. In addition, other factors were found that could influence the level of problematic internet use, namely decision making and parenting. Thus it can be concluded that Reality group counseling is effective in intervening in problematic internet usage, so that counselors can use this approach for students at the elementary school level.
